Keeping Focus

So, it's been a long time.  I've been kicking myself (for a long time) for not blogging more often.  It's part of today's world, isn't it?  I've been thinking of carrying my writing career forward, and it just seems like blogging and internet-based social networking are going to have to be part of that.  I'm not thrilled, though.  I started writing my first book when I was about ten years old . . . with a pencil and paper.  I still have those 20 or 30 pages somewhere, I think, and I've converted and lengthened them into about 16,000 words on my laptop.  I just now made my first edit to the project since 2010.  And I haven't done any substantial work on it since 2005.  But I still recall my first thoughts that got me writing it in the first place decades ago -- and I still want to finish it someday.

Meanwhile, I have been working on lots of other writing ideas.  In the past six years, this has mostly taken the form of writing articles under 1,000 words.  But I've written more than 80 of them for all kinds of sources in all kinds of a places.  My wife and others tell me I'm a great writer -- though she didn't like my last article.  :)  I'm certainly tempted to think of myself as a great writer only if I sell a million copies someday.  But that has never made anyone great writer, and worse, that's not the praise, approval, or success I truly need or want.  My writing, my family, and my life need to be lived by Christ, with Christ, and for Christ.  Everything else is merely vanity, and will be gone with the wind.
